Children spend most of their time in schools and it is an ideal setting where their health issues can be addressed. Thus the WHO has come up with a school promotional model which tries to address four ‘D’s viz. Defects at birth, Deficiencies, Diseases, and Development delays including disability. Total Health has adopted this comprehensive “School Health Program” approach and designed a protocol to protect and promote the health and well-being of students and staff which is inclusive of health services, a healthful school environment, and health education, aiming at early identification and intervention for children from birth to eighteen years of age.
